2 Timothy 1:8-14
- Introduction/Review
- Paul’s Exhortation: Do not be ashamed (2 Timothy 1:8-12)
- What should we do instead?
- We should recognize that in pursuing Christ we will incur the displeasure of the world. 2 Timothy 3:12; John 15:20
- We should willingly embrace the fact that we will suffer as the result of our devotion to Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:3; Philippians 1:29
- We should even rejoice in it! Acts 5:41; Colossians 1:24
- Moses as an example. Notice his attitude and his actions! Hebrews 11:24-26
- Why should we do this? vv. 9-10
- Because Jesus saved us.
- Because Jesus called us.
- For the gospel, Jesus has called me (Paul) to be:
- A preacher – Greek word “kerux”
- An apostle – Greek word “apostolos”
- A teacher – Greek word “didaskalos”
- Why is this important?
- Because if God commissioned Paul, how could he be afraid of people? Matthew 10:28
- Because if God commissioned Paul, how could he live to please people? Galatians 1:10
- Why can we do this?
- Because we know Jesus!
- Because we trust Jesus! Philippians 1:6
- Conclusions
- Your misery in this world is part of your ministry to this world! See 2 Timothy 4:5
- Remember your theology!
- We will get more into this next week, but it deserves repeating:
- What you believe can work.
- What you believe does work.
- What you believe must be put to work.
- Do you believe in Jesus? Then suffer for His gospel!
- If you believe in Him, you will trust Him for strength.
- If you believe in Him, you will obey His command to suffer.
- If you believe in Him, you will honor Him with your submission.
