- We need repetition, so long as it doesn’t exasperate us.
- Don’t Talk Past Each Other (2 Timothy 2:14b)
- We get really worked up over minor differences
- Talking past one another leads to ruin on both sides
- Because it Encourages pride
- Because it Enflames conflict
- Because it Estranges colleagues
- Because it Empowers our enemies
- Be Diligent to Present Yourselves Approved (2 Timothy 2:15)
- We should be vigilant to receive God’s approval (2 Corinthians 5:9)
- By accurately handling the word of truth
- Avoid Empty Chatter (2 Timothy 2:16-18)
- There is real temptation, in our desire to avoid wrangling over words, that we might become too loose and undefined in our teaching.
- What’s the worst that can happen?
- Ungodliness will spread like gangrene.
- Doctrinal error will upset the faith of some.
- Challenges
- Watch your mouth!
- Don’t say too much; Don’t say too little.
- Don’t exasperate with too much repetition; Don’t neglect people with too little repetition.
- Don’t criticize people over semantics.
- Don’t forget that people need clarity.
- Don’t forget you will often say stupid things.
- Guard your heart!
