  • Introduction/Review
  • Embrace the Beauty of Repetition (2 Timothy 2:14a)
    • We need repetition, so long as it doesn’t exasperate us.
  • Don’t Talk Past Each Other (2 Timothy 2:14b)
    • We get really worked up over minor differences
    • Talking past one another leads to ruin on both sides
      • Because it Encourages pride
      • Because it Enflames conflict
      • Because it Estranges colleagues
      • Because it Empowers our enemies
  • Be Diligent to Present Yourselves Approved (2 Timothy 2:15)
    • We should be vigilant to receive God’s approval (2 Corinthians 5:9)
      • By accurately handling the word of truth
  • Avoid Empty Chatter (2 Timothy 2:16-18)
    • There is real temptation, in our desire to avoid wrangling over words, that we might become too loose and undefined in our teaching.
    • What’s the worst that can happen?
      • Ungodliness will spread like gangrene.
      • Doctrinal error will upset the faith of some.
  • Challenges
    • Watch your mouth!
      • Don’t say too much; Don’t say too little.
      • Don’t exasperate with too much repetition; Don’t neglect people with too little repetition.
      • Don’t criticize people over semantics.
      • Don’t forget that people need clarity.
      • Don’t forget you will often say stupid things.
    • Guard your heart!
